Retainer Instructions

Braces 60646

Care of Appliances

Retainers are to be worn 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the first 6 months.
Remove your retainers to eat or play a ‘contact’ sport. Always place your retainers in their case. Most retainers are lost by being wrapped up in a napkin and thrown away.
Your retainer should be brushed every time you brush your teeth, use cold water and toothpaste ONLY.
After the first 6 months, your retainers only need to be worn when you sleep. Always keep them in the case; pets love them for chew toys.
In the beginning, you may feel that you talk funny, but your mouth will adjust with constant wear and even practicing by speaking out loud.
Retainers are breakable, if they are lost or broken please call the office immediately.
If you have any questions about how the retainers feel or think they may need adjust, call the office for an appointment.
ALWAYS bring your retainers to your appointments.
Retainers are expensive to replace, treat them with care because you will need them for a long time.
NEVER wrap your retainers in a napkin, NEVER put the in a washing machine, dishwasher or microwave. NEVER try boiling them to sterilize them. DO NOT clean them in hot water and remove them when drinking hot liquids. REMEMBER only cold water and toothpaste.Type your paragraph here.

Our Services

Each patient must work together with the doctor and his assistants to successfully complete the treatment plan. By wearing rubber bands, headgear or other appliances as prescribed, the teeth and jaws can move toward their corrected positions. Damaged or broken appliances can make your treatment time longer.

Brushing

It is more important than ever to brush and floss regularly now that you have braces, it is very important to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Patients are asked to see their dentist for cleanings more often than twice a year, because we know that keeping your teeth clean with braces can be difficult. Many adult patients are also asked to see a periodontist before, during and after their orthodontic treatment to check their gums for disease and roost absorption.

Brushing should ideally be done after each time something is eaten, whether it is a meal or a snack. It is best to use fluoride toothpaste, followed by a fluoride rinse, every night. If the doctor thinks that it is necessary he may also prescribe a fluoride paste to help prevent against “white stops”.
